Collaboration between Moscow, Beijing gets stronger— Russian PM

(MENAFN) Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said Monday that collaboration between Moscow and Beijing continues to grow despite turbulence in international politics and the global economy.

Mishustin spoke at the 30th regular meeting of China-Russia heads of government in Hangzhou, noting that Chinese Premier Li Qiang also attended and expressed Beijing’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Moscow to better protect shared interests.

During the meeting, Mishustin pointed to new large-scale joint initiatives, including the development of oil and gas fields, production of high-tech equipment, and collaboration in energy, peaceful nuclear power, as well as space and lunar exploration.

"We are implementing joint programs in aviation and automotive manufacturing. We are developing transport corridors. We are working in the extreme conditions of the Arctic," he said.

He added that the two countries share broad common interests and similar perspectives on key issues, noting that the use of the dollar and euro in their trade has dropped to a “level of statistical error,” effectively negligible.

Mishustin also highlighted plans to boost tourism through the visa-free regime for Russians visiting China and said that, “On the instructions of (Russian President) Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, we are working on similar decisions (to abolish visas) for Chinese citizens.”

Additionally, he emphasized Russia’s readiness to expand food exports to China, noting the growing popularity of Russian products among Chinese consumers.

Mishustin extended an invitation to Li to attend the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Moscow on November 17-18.

Li, in turn, affirmed Beijing’s willingness to strengthen strategic communication, expand cooperation across multiple sectors, and protect their shared development and security interests more effectively.
